Switzerland and Italian lakes

Trying to arrange May travel ny- Zurich and back
Want to do Zurich overnight, 2 nights Lucerne, 2 nights Interlaken, then to Italian Lakes (Stresa?) 3 nights, 2 nights Zermatt, and then Glacier Express to Chur and onward to Zurich overnight and next day, home. Overly ambitious or okay?

  • Are you flying into Zürich, or arriving by train? Either way, skip Zürich, go straight to Luzern.
  • Do not stay in Interlaken, instead stay in one of the smaller places further into tha mountains: Mürren, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen or Grindelwald.
  • In going from the Interlaken area to Stresa, you go past the entrance to the Zermatt valley (look at a map). So either skip Zermatt, or do it before the Italian Lakes.
  • What is your route from Stresa to the Glacier Express? It runs East-West from Chur to Interlaken. A more logical combination is Zermatt - Glacier Express route to Chur (overnight) - Bernina Express route to Tirano. South to Lake Como (Varenna). Then nearest place to fly home from is Milan.

Again consult a map. Your original route crossed back over itself.

Don't stay in Interlaken, rather the towns in the mountains of the Berner Oberland as suggested above. We did this by car in a circle from Milan, returning to Milan. Lake Maggiore first, Lake Como last, Switzerland in the middle, worked very well.
