Switzerland and eastern France with an infant

At the end of September, we are flying into Zurich with our 4-month-old en route to visit my sister in Geneva.

We are hoping to take a train meet my sister and her family (1 and 4-year-olds) somewhere in the middle for the first weekend of our trip. I'm interested in the Berner Oberland but am concerned about my baby and high altitudes. Any alpine destinations that would be appropriate for the little ones? Have been reading about Murren, Wengen, Gimmelwald, and Grindelwald.

After continuing west to Geneva, we'd like to take a 3 or 4 night excursion to France. We are looking for a place we can have a low-key time with our new family: easy train access to and from Geneva, beautiful nature, and mellow with a baby. We just want to take long walks, go to the market and bakery for simple, delicious food. Any suggestions for the perfect spot? Annecy? Yvoire?

Thank you!

I would agree about Annecy. The lake can be quite mellow and the old town charming. Yvoire is very quaint but it's a boat ride away. I prefer Annecy with it's canals.

As noted above, Murren is not too high yet where you'll be feeling the altitude effects. However, the lifts up to Schilthorn are pretty high. The rapid rise is a problem for some people. If you took a plane there, remember that the children have already felt the equivalent of 6000 to 8000 ft.
