Hi, looking to get some help deciding which travel passes to get for my 9 day trip in Switzerland at the end of July. We are a family of 4 with 2 adults, 1 youth, and one under 15. Looking to spend 2 days in Lucerne(visiting Mt.Rigi and Mt.Pilatus), head to Interlaken(visiting Lauterbrunnen, Gridewald, and Jungfrau) and explore that area for 3 days, make a quick stop at Gstaad and head to Zermatt for 2 days(visiting Matterhorn), take the Glacier Express to Chur, and head back to Zurich afterwards. For the days I am spending and the areas I have listed, what would be the best travel passes to purchase? Currently looking at the half fare pass but should I combine it with any other passes(Berner-Oberland pass, Tell Pass, etc.) given the itinerary? I am currently unable to decide the best combination of passes to get the best deal.
Thanks for the help!
Getting the Half Fare Card is a great idea! To see if any regional travel passes will benefit you, it's best to do the math for all the excursions you plan. You can easily look up prices on SBB.ch or the SBB app.
Short distance travel isn't very expensive. For example, a one-way trip from Interlaken to Grindelwald is just 5.90 CHF - so it will depend on what “explore that area” means to you.
The Jungfraujoch is your big ticket item, and you can compare things like the Jungfraujoch Good Morning Ticket, HFC discount, Berner Oberland Pass or the Jungfrau Travel Pass for that journey, alongside whatever else you plan on doing in the Berner Oberland. Remember that Gstaad is also in the BO, so if you are going to do any excursions there you can include them in your calculations as well.
