Swiss Travel Pass and/or Jungfrau Travel Pass

If I want to get an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass but also spend four days in the Jungfrau region, do I need both passes valid on the same day? In other words, to get the discount on the Jungrau Travel Pass, will that also use days on my Swiss Travel Pass? Or could I get a four day Swiss Travel Pass and a four day Jungfrau Travel pass for a total of 8 days or do I need an 8 day Swiss pass which would be valid during the time I had the Jungfrau pass?

If you show the STP for a discount, it counts as a use day. However, I guess you could buy the Jungfraujoch Pass in advance on a day you use the STP for travel? I'm just not familiar with the Jungfraujoch Pass.
Where are you staying? I ask because the STP covers travel up to Murren and Wengen. So if you're staying in Murren and going to the Jungfraujoch, you would use the STP to cover travel to Wengen.
There's no easy way to figure all this out, with so many options. Just pencil out your costs, make a decision, and don't overthink it.
You will have a fantastic stay in this beautiful country!

Myswisslife mentioned the Berner Oberland Regional Pass which you should compare to the Jungfrau Pass especially as regards transportation to Mürren and elsewhere in the Berner Oberland. We get a BO Pass every year. Every year I do the comparisons and a Half Fare Card plus a BO Reg Pass pencils out for us every time. I only buy a Swiss Travel Pass when we are doing extensive travel outside of the Berner Oberland.

If you use the STP to get a reduction for the Jungfrau pass you may be asked to show both together at every ticket controle. So it should be valid for the same period.

If however you are spending several days in the same area, and getting a local pass you should not get the Swiss Travel Pass. Get the Swiss Half Fare Card in stead. The STP is for people who are doing a "grand train tour of Switzerland" or something like that.

And the Berner Oberland Regional Pass may even be a better option, as that covers al public transit in the area as well, whereas the Jungfrau Pass only covers railways operated by the Jungfrau Railway group.

Echoing what WengenK says above, for my family the half fare card and Jungfrau Pass penciled out best.

One last remark: The advantage of a pass is that it removes the threshold to take a cable car, to just go somewhere. Once you have the pass you can just take them as often as you want, and treat them just as transportation. I have a season pass for the Jungfrau Area, and sometimes just take the cable car up to the Männlichen to have a beer up there. Or just to travel to Grindelwald to go shopping...

So I always suggest tourist to just get a local pass and then just do not worry about wether a certain trip is worth. Just go, and use the pass to the max.
