My wife and I are traveling to Switzerland as part of RS's 12 Day Tour of Switzerland. With a few days on either side of the tour, we'll be there for 18 days. On those days on either side of the tour, we'll be doing some train travel and museum visiting. In that context. is it useful and more economical to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass?

The Half Fare card is the way to go in your situation.

Depends on where you are going and how many days you are actually traveling. The Half Fare Card only pays off if you have at least 240 CHF worth of full fare tickets per person. The Swiss Travel Pass is expensive, so for only 3 days on each end of the tour, maybe just buying full fare tickets will be less expensive.
