Swiss train and tram question

I’m traveling from Lucerne to Zurich. Will only be there one day. What type of pass should I buy. I plan to use transportation while in Zurich . Can I purchase one ticket that will get me to Zürich and then around Zürich , using train and tram or do I need to purchase all separate tickets. Thank you .

You can purchase a train ticket from Luzern to Zürich that includes a "city ticket" for transportation in Zürich for the whole day (the same day as your travel day). It is available from the SBB app, from ticket machines and from the staffed counters.
You do not need a pass: just buy a full-price ticket (be careful if you use the app: it assumes that you have a Half Fare Card, a card that grants 50% off but costs money to buy - not relevant in your case).

This could be a little tricky. If you plan to buy a ticket from Luzern to Zurich HB (main station), the city ticket add-on does not include the airport. You would have to buy a separate ticket for 6.80 CHF to get to the airport. So if the plan is to buy a ticket to Zurich HB, store your luggage in a locker, tour the city, then go to your airport hotel at the end of the day, you need to buy that airport ticket.
