I will be traveling in July on the Bernina express. We have seat reservations and a Swiss saver day pass. Does the Swiss saver day pass need to be validated or do we just board the train?

A Saver Day Pass is good for a whole day, on the day you bought it for. There is no need to "validate" anything, You have a whole day of free travel on all public transit. Just show it when requested. You may also be asked to show an ID, so have your passport with you.
