We will be spending 3 days in Lucerne and 5 days in Murren this September. We will not have a car, so we are considering buying the Berner Oberland pass. Intended sites include the Shilthorn, Jungfraujoch, Wengen/Grindlewald, Thun, Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen, and other hiking sites around Murren (via gondolas, cog trains). Seems like the BO pass is the most inclusive, although it does not fully cover the Shilthorn and Jungfraujoch. Looks like the Jungfrau pass includes the Jungfraujoch train, but wondering if there is any further advantage to getting the Jungfrau pass over the BO pass?
There's so much discussion here because these passes confuse everyone. An OP posted a great u-tube video, I'll see if I can find it.
Enjoy this beautiful country!
This is a site that we used to help us decide. https://aplinsinthealps.com/ultimate-swiss-train-pass-guide-2023/
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
there's their original video and then an update video. The original is now 2 years old. Be sure to catch the update.
Thanks so much. Based on our itinerary, it seems the BO pass makes the most sense. Several sites, including the link above recommend pairing it with the half fare pass. Is it true that if you get the half fare pass, you can then purchase the BO pass at half fare? If not, it doesn't seem like the half fare pass makes sense, since most transportation is already covered in the BO pass.
