I saw that the Swiss rail pass also can give a discount for the French TGV. How do you utilize that discount? Also how much of a discount will it get you? Thank you
bumping this question - there is a lot of traffic on the Forums at the moment
I am thinking that is only for the portion of the TGV that is in Switzerland. For instance, the TGV from Zurich to Paris stops in Basel on the way, so the Zurich to Basel section would be free with the STP, and you only pay the Basel to Paris section. But if you buy an advance discounted nonrefundable ticket, the discount would be more than the savings with the STP. So in effect, you can only use it if you buy a full fare ticket.

If I arrive by international train from abroad, what do I have to do? Are Swiss Travel System tickets valid on these trains?
No. Swiss Travel System tickets are valid only on the Swiss Travel System national route network. Separate tickets are required for international arrivals or departure. Please inquire with your travel agency or SBB as to which ticket is best for you.
