We will be joining Rick's Switzerland tour this summer. We plan on buying a Swiss Rail Flexi Pass for before and after the tour. We are wondering how long (number of days) of a pass to purchase. Would it be useful to have a pass during his tour? For the optional gondola ride up the Schilthorn for breakfast? Or is the cost of the gondola included in the cost for the breakfast? Or on other tour days when there is free time?
You would pay for the optional gondola ride from Muerren to the Schilthorn. Note that Swiss Travel Passes go back to just covering this route 50% in 2020. A pass could cover you 100% if you cross the valley from Muerren to Wengen, for instance, but then 25% off above Wengen. Since travel on many mountain lifts is only discounted with the Swiss Travel Pass, and since most of your town-to-town transport is covered, I would just consider a one-month Swiss Half Fare Card for $125 per person, which saves money if your transport tickets (of all types) would otherwise add up to more than $250 per person.
