Swiss pass vs half fare card

Hi! 3 of us traveling to Switzerland for one week the end of May. We would like some help on which Swiss pass to purchase. We will be coming from Stuttgart, Germany and going to Lucerne for two nights. From Lucerne we head to Murren for four nights and then to Zurich where we fly out from. In Murren, we plan on going to the Schilthorn and Jungfrau if the weather permits. Any help deciding which pass to use would be great!

The Swiss Saver Flexi Pass is the most expensive way to go and will cost you money at 354 chf pp. If you get the Half Fare Card at 120 chf pp, you will save a small amount (40 chf total) if you do both the Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn. If you go full fare, you will save money in all cases except if you do the Jungfraujoch. Given the circumstances, I'd just pay as you go.

Get a Half Fare Card...that's the safest bet. If you go to the the expensive Jungfrau then your savings with the Half Fare Card will practically pay for itself on that journey alone. In Murren you'll be no doubt riding gondolas, funiculars, trains, maybe boats in Itnerlaken...all of which can really add up and all of which you'll receive 50% discount.

Thank you!

Tim - if we didn't end up going to Jungfrau would the half fare card still be worth it? I know it's an expensive journey and have heard mixed reviews whether it's worth it or not.

If you are in Muerren, you will be able to look up and see the weather on the Jungfrau. So don't go if it looks questionable. With a Half Fare Card, it will still cost about 100 chf pp round trip.

Lindsay, if you do not go to the two mountain tops, you may not need any type of Swiss pass or card. Round trip from Zurich to Muerren is about 160CHF. Most certainly, you would be up and down the gondola a few times even if you did not go to the two mountain tops. For the 1/2 fare to begin saving money, you need to exceed 240CHF on overall tickets. Note that the regular round trip fare from Lauterbrunnen to the Jungfraujoch, is 176.20CHF which is $199.67. As mentioned above, the 120CHF 1/2-fare card will cover 100CHF on that ticket. It almost pays for itself on just this one trip. Note also that it's 2hrs to get from Muerren to the Jungfraujoch and 2hrs to come back. The Jungfraujoch is a huge facility with lots to do up there . We enjoyed our time up there.

Thank you Larry!! That was helpful! How much is it on the gondolas? Just trying to price everything out right now. We figured a pass may be worth it since we would prob be taking some sort of public transportation everyday but I'll look more into the individual fares. I was also looking at the swiss consecutive day pass but that one is pricey!
