Swiss Pass, Swiss Card, or neither?

We are 2 couples and a single friend, traveling by train from Zurich to Murren, on September 10. We will be staying in Murren 3 nights before taking the the train to Basel to leave on a river cruise. While in Murren we will be taking the cable car to Schilthorn, as well as using the funicular, cable cars, local trains, etc to access hiking trails and surrounding villages. Does it make sense to purchase a Swiss Pass or Swiss Card as opposed to purchasing all tickets point to point? If so, is the Card or Pass the better choice? Where can these be bought prior to our trip? Many thanks for suggestions!

The Swiss Card will give you the best deal. Assuming you are arriving at Zurich airport, you can buy it there at the airport, or in advance from via this website in the Travel Tips section link to Rail Europe. From Rail Europe, the price will be in dollars (at an OK exchange rate) plus $18 mailing cost. You'll still need to buy point-to-point tickets for the mountain lifts and local trains during your stay, but at half price when you show your card.

Looks like you're on the right track. If you're buying three Swiss Cards online, then that will qualify for Rail Europe's free shipping (above the $399 purchase minimum).
