Hello, I am traveling to Switzerland in June and a family member wants to buy a 15-day Swiss Pass for me. We will use my email address, but his credit card. Will I have a problem picking up the pass? Do you have to present the card used to purchase? Thanks in advance.
You can purchase and printout your pass at https://www.sbb.ch/ticketshop/b2c/mengenscreen.do
You fill out the info, starting with the validity start date, then personal information ie First and Last Name, date of birth, passport number, and nationality.
Credit card payment can be tricky. American Express works good, but Visa seems to need to be registered at Verified-by-Visa with a PIN that you input during the transaction.
Thanks - I usually have no problem with the verified by visa. My question regards the fact that the purchaser and traveler are 2 different people and I won’t have the credit card with me when I travel. As long as I have the printed ticket and an email copy, I should be fine?
You don't need the credit card, you need your passport. The conductor will check that the info on the pass matches the info on the passport and the photo on the passport looks like the person with the pass.
Deutsche Bahn used to use the credit card to verify that print-at-home tickets were valid, but I think they use passport ID now.
I have bought Swiss passses for family members with no issues, and no need for them to show the credit card used forbpurchase, but I bought them from this website well in Advance and elected to receive paper passes,, not e-passes.
Thanks for your feedback...
While a train conductor may ask to see the passport to go with any rail pass, it should be standard procedure for every trip with the (easily reproduced) print-at-home version of the consecutive-day Swiss Travel Pass.
