Swiss Pass pays reasonable to my itinerary ?

Hello all,

We (me and husband) will be in Wengen for 4 days in from 5th June to 9 June 2017. I will be taking flight to Basel from Naples, Italy.

Now I am wondering if Swiss Travel Pass for 3 days (CHF 216) is good deal for me? Following is my itinerary.

Day 1 - Once arrived at Basel, I will use my pass to reach Wengen (hope I can purchase that at Airport itself). Not sure about how much time required to do airport formalities and train connectivity if I do prior ticket booking for Wengen. (approx 80 CHF)

Day 2 - I will travel to Interlaken from Wengen, visit Ballenberg Open-Air Museum (planned a half day. is it enough?).

Back to to Interlaken station. From there will take Boat Trip to Thun Lake. On the way, will visit st. Beatus caves.(here my main concern is about boat timings, as per my information last boat trip is at 2pm. so if I can make it for Boat trip or not after visiting Museum?).

Train back to Wengen from Thun or Interlaken if could able to make round trip.

Day 3 - Grindelwald-Grund–Männlichen trip with hike (Please let us know, how we can start this from Wengen with best use of Swiss pass). Same day will visit Trümmelbach Falls (as per my info, swiss pass pay entry to the fall)

Validity of travel pass ends here.

Day 4 - Leisure. What else we can do at Wengen and near by region? Mostly interested in alpine flowers and scenery.

Day 5 - Wengen to Geneva airport (approx 90 CHF). Flight to Paris.

Travelers, is Swiss Travel Pass (3 Days) pays for my itinerary or I would not go for it?

Any inputs will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Mira, a Swiss travel pass will probably make sense. To find out exactly you would have to so the arithmetic - your job, not mine.
Also, the pass will make it all a lot easier, as you will not need to buy tickets every time.

  • There is an SBB counter at Basel airport arrivals. They can sell you a pass, which is also valid on the bus to Basel station.
  • "Not sure about how much time required to do airport formalities and train connectivity". Naples to Basel there are no formalities. Both Italy and Switzerland are in the Schengen Area, so no passport checks on arrival. Customs they only stop people randomly (less than 1 in 100). But it doesn't matter how long, just get the next bus (ever 7½ minutes), and trains from Basel to Wengen are every 30 minutes, just get the first one.
  • "Day 5 - Wengen to Geneva airport (approx 90 CHF). Flight to Paris.". I would get a train from Wengen to Paris. Probably quicker and definitely more comfortable, and you are in the centre of Paris. Go to https://www.sbb.ch/en/ and look up Wengen to Paris for 9th June.

There are scenic hikes with alpine flower gardens at Allmendhubel and Schynige Platte. Not sure how many flowers will be blooming that early, and check whether SP is snow-free before setting out.
