Swiss Pass or Half Fare? Or Day Saver? So confused!

Here is the list of trips we plan to make - its 2 adults, a 6 year old and a 2 year old. What pass would you buy? It's a 10 day trip but the first and last day are only 1 train ride reach? I'm trying to price each individually and add it up? Is that the right approach?

  • Zurich Airport to Chur 2 nights in Chur - trips- Chur - St Moritz (Bernina Express) - day trip, St Moritz - Chur (Local train) - same day back
  • Reach Luzern for 3 nights/3 days : Chur - Andermatt (Glacier Express), Andermatt to Flüelen (local train?), Flüelen to Luzern (Boat). trip to Rigi, Mt Titilis, to Mt Pilatus,
  • 3 nights/ 3 days in Wengen - Luzern to Wengen, With trips to Schilthorn, Jungfraujoch
  • Wengen to Zurich (1 night) Zurich to Zurich Airport

The way you’ve listed this out is a bit confusing to help. Can you share your day to day itinerary plan, like where are you basing for each of these activities?

You are right wanderweg! I made some edits, I hope they help with readability?

I’m assuming you mean Schilthorn & Jungfraujoch from Wengen, not Weggis? How long are you in each location?

Zurich>Chur - how many nights?
Chur>Luzern - how many nights?
Is Weggis a day trip or you mean you’re staying overnight there?
Luzern>Wengen - how many nights?

Remember what I told you in your other post about using the Glacier Express to reach Luzern. You have to change trains at Andermatt and go to Göschenen to meet the northbound train to Flüelen if you want to catch the boat there.

And your schedule is still confusing, as Pilatus is a mountain excursion from Luzern, not from Wengen.

Without adding everything up (which would be very time-consuming), I will suggest two options. One is a Half Fare Card for the parents, with a free Family Card for the kids. Then use the HFC to get Saver Day Passes for the parents for the day you travel Chur-Andermatt-Göschenen—Flüelen—-boat to Luzern. Buy them well before the trip to get the lowest price.

The HFC has the advantage of giving the best discount on the pricy Jungfrau trip (a full 50% instead of the 25% a Swiss Travel Pass covers above Wengen).

The other option would be the Swiss Travel Pass (for the parents, with free Family card for the kids). This will fully cover the trip from Chur to Luzern by train and boat, plus the Rigi round trip from Luzern. So you wouldn’t need the separate Saver Day Pass. An 8-day Swiss Pass for 419 CHF will cover all your train and boat rides for all but your first or last travel day. You will still pay extra for mountain excursions like Pilatus, Schilthorn, and Jungfraujoch.

My rough guesstimate is that the Swiss Travel Pass might be more cost-effective, and it certainly is more convenient than a HFC—-you don’t have to buy tickets for each ride. You just board the train or boat and show your passes to the conductor when he or she comes around.
