You are not allowed to share a pass. Each person must have their own.

Just got back from a trip to Switzerland using Swiss Travel Passes. Your name is on the pass. Although in my experience, id is rarely checked. Ours was checked at least once. We had to show our passports. Please don't try to share a pass. You may face a large fine.

Sorry, I didn't word this plainly. We do NOT intend to share passes at all!!!!!! NO WAY, NO HOW!!!! I'm trying to ask if it is better for A) one person purchases THREE passes or B) Each person purchases separately

IF one person purchases three passes, how do person 2 and 3 access them if the three people are not traveling together?
I can't find what happens if one person buys three passes. How does the purchaser send persons 2 and 3 their pass?

Thanks for the clarification, mjm122696!

I purchased my husband's ticket and my own ticket at the train station in Zurich Airport in late April. We each had our own paper ticket with our name as it appears on our passport and our birth date, the dates and times of beginning and ending"validity, and the class of service printed on it. It also reads "Valid as Swiss Museum Pass" and "Only valid with your Passport/ID". And the price we paid for it. During our trip my husband always carried the tickets. There was only one time when I was in a different part of the train than my husband and was asked for my ticket. I just told the person checking tickets that my husband had mine and where he was on the train. It was no problem.

We have always bought 2nd class passes. I do not recall ever not finding a seat on a Swiss train.

Hope this info is helpful.

One person can buy three passes, print them out and then hand them out to his companions. That is fine. Just make sure the correct names are entered when purchasing.

Incidentally just the other day coming down from Wengen there was a group of Americans on board where obviously one person had bought all the tickets for the whole group, which he presented to the conductor...

It's very convenient to place the pass in your Apple wallet, and one can access this without cell data on.
I purchased my and my husband's together, and we were each able to put the pass in our own Apple wallets.
Safe travels!
