Swiss pass confusion

We will be in Switzerland, vevey area, later this month.
We have a car and staying with family. We will be there maybe 5 days.
Is it worth getting a regional pass ?
We plan on going to Zermatt, interlaken and check out vevey area.

Will you be using the car for side trips to Zermatt and the Interlaken/Berner Oberland area or taking trains? Staying overnight at these destinations or returning in one day?

You probably don't want to buy a pass unless your plans are pretty firm. You can see some cost comparisons at http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/switzerland-rail-passes or look up more detail on the Swiss site, www.sbb.ch.

Kids under age 16 get a good deal, either way. If you get a rail pass or Half-Fare Card, then your kids will travel for free with the Swiss Family Card. If you're just buying separate tickets, then I'd expect you to pay 30 sf per child for a similar Junior Card.
