If I have a Swiss Pass can I use it for the discount on the Jungfraujoch train without using a day?

To be clear- I have a SWISS pass, which according to Rick's guidebook gets 50% off above Murren.....correct??
And I was hoping it wouldn't eat up one of my train days is I just showed them for the discount and paid the difference.....But I'm not sure if thats how it works.

If you have the continuous-day version of the Swiss Pass, then it starts getting consumed the day you have it validated. For example, an 8-day pass validated on June 1 will expire after June 8 regardless of how little or how often you use it.

If you have a Travel Day or Flexi version of the pass, then using it to buy a discounted ticket will consume one of the days. For example, if you have an 8-day Travel Day pass, then using it to buy a discounted Schilthorn ticket will cost you one of the travel days on your pass.

Also, the discount is 50% for the ride from Murren to the Schilthorn, but it is 25% for the ride from Wengen to the Jungfraujoch.

Since you are asking about using up a travel day, I will assume you have a Swiss "Flexi" pass where you choose the days to use it.

In the past (like our last trip 10 years ago), a Flexi-pass offered 50% off on travel between the fully-covered days. That is no longer true. Now, using the pass to claim a discount on lifts will use up a travel day.

As noted above, it will cover 50% of the ride up the Schilthorn, above Muerren. But only 25% of the ride on the Jungfraubahn above Wengen. You can confirm that with the map link I posted above, or this from Rick's railpass page for Switzerland:

Since you also asked about visiting the Schilthorn and Jungfrau on the same day, that would give you good value for a covered day on your pass. Starting in Muerren, it will cover 50% of the ride up the Schilthorn and back. Then it will fully cover your travel down to Lauterbrunnen and up the other side of the valley to Wengen. From Wengen, it will only cover 25% of the cost of the train up to Jungfraujoch. You will need to purchase a ticket for that and I suggest you do that in Lauterbrunnen--buy the roundtrip. They will take your pass into account when figuring the cost. Your travel from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen and up to Muerren will again be fully covered.

So is that why you want to visit both on the same day? You have a flexipass and you're trying to get as much travel in one day as possible? That makes economic sense. But it doesn't make practical sense. You can travel up to Schilthorn and back down to Murren, then on down to Gimmelwald and then eventually on down to the valley floor in Stechelberg, You can connect on the Swiss Post Bus all the way to Lauterbrunnen (stopping along the way of course because it's beautiful). From Lauterbrunnen you can head back up to Murren via Grutschalp. That would be much more "practical" use of a Flexipass day of travel.
