My husband and I are heading to Switzerland mid-May and would like to spend most of our time in Switzerland but would very much like to figure out the best way to include a small side trip to Turin, particularly to hedge against the risk of some bad weather and because we’d love a little Italy for the trip. Not interested in Milan and have previously spent time in Como, so would like to make Turin work.
Would the following make sense (not attached to the order at this point)?
Fly into either Geneva or Zurich, depending on price.
- 2 days Lucerne
- 4 Days Berner Oberland (still need to figure out exact towns that would work well for mid-May) also day trip to Bern from there (or cut a night from BO and do one night in Bern).
- 2 days Lausanne/Montreux/Gruyeres?
- Rent a car in either Lausanne/Montreux or Geneva and drive to Turin for 2-3 days
- Return car in Switzerland and fly back out of Geneva or Zurich.
I know there is a train to Turin through Milan, but it seems that would take much more time than driving and we don’t want to waste that time. Would renting a car & driving to Turin be better from Geneva or Lake Geneva area and is there a particularly scenic route?
We haven’t included Zermatt because of the iffy weather and have heard we’ll likely enjoy BO more. Also are Bern and Lake Geneva area worth including or are there other areas that would be more appealing that time of year?
