Swiss hikes

Seeking advice re a hike for 2 women 71-75. The latter had hip replacement 2 mths ago and trip is September 9-23.(part of trip is a 7 day Rhine River cruise.) We are based in Basel for 7 nights. We are already doing the Rigi loop tour in Luzern. My question is can we do a trip to Lauterbrunnen and back in one day. I believe we will be on train quite a bit ,but understand it is very scenic. We can arrive late in Basel. Looking at either the hike from Murren to Grutshalp(supposedly a super easy hike) and taking train /cable car to murren; hike from Murren to Grutschalp and take train back to Lauterbrunnen. Or #2 option : train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen and lift to Mannlichen. Hike down to Klein Schiedegg( I believe it is a 2.5 mile hike that is easy and takes 1.5 hrs. From there we would take train back to Wengen and Lauterbrunnen. Which hike do you think would be the easiest and best considering our time? Or is this completely unreasonable to do in one day. I would really like to see scenery outside of the city’s. I am considering saver day pass for this . Thanks for your help always , Susan

It’s possible. It will take a little over 3 hours to get to Mannlichen, a couple hours to hike to KS, train back to Wengen to explore for a bit and then return to Basel. This is a better option that Mürren to Grutschalp, which is walking away from the views. Mannlichen to KS is a lovely, easy walk. To do your plan, leave after breakfast, hike early afternoon, explore Wengen late afternoon and then return to Basel for a late dinner OR stay in Wengen for dinner and return to Basel late evening.

Thank you, I meant to say the hike from Grutschalp to Murren.,and then return from Murren. What would be the shorter and easiest way to return from Murren to Lauterbrunnen

My advice still stands - between the 2 options - Mannlichen to KS is better.
