We are going to be in Grendelwald September 7-13 and we will have a car. Would the swiss half fare card make economic sense given all the lifts in the area around Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen? We do not plan to go to the Jungfrau.

The Half Fare Card will only save money if you have more than 240 CHF worth of full fare tickets. Check the prices all your intended journeys to see if it will save.
You may find the 7-day Jungfrau Travel Pass for 310 CH pp may work better, or a 6-day Berner Oberland Pass with more extensive coverage for 350 CHF.
