We will be in the Lauterbrunnen valley for 2 full days, wishing to take the train from Wengen to Jungfrauch ( half way from Klein scheidegg hiking the Manlichen hike down to Wengen) can we get a reduced price if we get off the Klein Scheidegg train station and hike the Manlcihen hike to Wengen ? and from Murren to Schilthorn, is it worth getting the Swiss half fare care ?
You would need to spend CHF 300 to break even on the half fare card.
How are you getting to and from Lauterbrunnen? Any other time in Switzerland?
We will be joining the RS Alpine My Way tour , we will be in the Lauterbrunnen valley on July 1/2, 2026, probably staying in Wengen
Well you have to get from the airport as well, so that factors in to the equation, as well as any other trips you're taking not fully covered by the tour. Just on the 2 trips to Jungfraujoch & Schilthorn you will already break even with the HFC, so add that to your airport transfer, etc. it will be worthwhile for you.
Just so you're clear, the Mannlichen hike doesn't go to Wengen. You do this....
Wengen > cable car up to Mannlichen > walk to Kleine Scheidegg > train to Jungfraujoch > train to Kleine Scheidegg > optional scenic walk to Wengernalp > train to Wengen
With this, you get a 1 way cable car ticket from Wengen to Mannlichen, a roundtrip ticket for Jungfraujoch from Kleine Scheidegg and a train ticket from Kleine Scheidegg OR Wengernalp to Wengen (depending on if you walk that last bit)
There is no real financial advantage to adding the walk. It's for the scenery. Every option is between 94-100 chf with the half fare card (double that without).
94.50chf option
Wengen > cable car up to Mannlichen > walk to Kleine Scheidegg > train to Jungfraujoch > train to Kleine Scheidegg > walk to Wengernalp > train to Wengen
99 chf option
Wengen > cable car up to Mannlichen > walk to Kleine Scheidegg > train to Jungfraujoch > train to Kleine Scheidegg > train to Wengen
100 chf option
Wengen > Jungfraujoch roundtrip
The tour starts in Salzburg and ends in Chamonix.
I’ll be on this tour in Sept. and will probably get the BO Pass for the convenience.
Thanks, does the HCF card cover the cable car/funicular/bus too? our route will be Wengen>Jungfrauch <K;lein scheidegg..hike the Mannlichen cable car to Wengen, can you get a reduce ticket if you get off Klein Sch?…
Did you read my post? I answered all your questions.....
I've done the RS alpine my way tour. We stayed in Lauterbrunnen at Staubach. You really want to walk from Mannlichen to Klein Scheidegg. You are walking towards the Eiger. It is breath taking, easy walk, If you do it the opposite way the Eiger is at your back.
I wouldn't buy the half fare card, till you are there and check the monitors up top. There is plenty to do without going up to the Jungfrach or Schilthorn, especially if it's your first time.
If it's clear in Chamonix, do the panorama gondola (closes at 3:00) from Aiguille du Midi. If it's open when you get up to Aiguille du Midi, buy your tickets and go. Do the Aiguille du Midi lookouts when you get back. You need reservations for Aiguille du Midi. Tickets are cheaper for the lifts in this area, especially if your Seniors. Views are gorgeous too.
In the Dolomites, we hiked in the pouring down rain, Only got glimpses of the mountains. We loved this trip, but did have some rain and clouds at several stops.
