We will end our Italian trip in Milan late next April. We would like to take a train from Milan to Zermatt Switzerland, board the Glacier Express, and ride it through the Alps to the St. Moritz area. Is this a viable plan? Any idea how long the trip would take from Milan to Zermatt and from Zermatt to St. Moritz? I am assuming that we can catch the Glacier Express at Zermatt (?). Thanks for any advice.
I would say to short cut going all the way to Zermatt just to ride the train back down the valley. Unless you plan on staying in Zermatt for a few days, pick the Express up in Brig. You can get a 7:25 EC train from Milan to Brig in 1 hour and 51 minutes. You can wait 1 hour there and get the 10:18 Glacier Express to St Moritz arriving at 16:58. The stretch from Brig to St Moritz is also the most interesting. Ironically, the mountains in the valley up to Zermatt are so high you can't see them, just the valley walls.
Thank you very much for the information.
