Will be in Switzerland for 4 days this coming July. I understand they don't take Euros, only Swiss Francs. BUT I did read that some places will take Euros. We are staying in Murren.
Do we need Swiss Francs or get by with credit cards and some Euros?
Thank You
You need a credit card and swiss francs only. For 4 days I would just take out 60 or 80 CHF for small purchases for two people. Don't take out 100 as the machine will just give you a 100 note.
A lot of places will accept EUR at a less than great rate and give change in CHF.
As Sam says, businesses that accept Euros tend to give a poor exchange rate, so it's better to get Swiss Francs in advance or from an ATM after you arrive.
Having some francs is advisable just in case of a cash-only place and be certain you have 1 CHF coins for the occasional pay toilet. Just take 40 or 60 from an ATM and if you have francs left the last day buy your snacks or lunch or a souvenir with them.
