Swiss bliss

Hi, a friend and myself are planning a 14 day holiday spending 10 days in Switzerland and four elsewhere. I was wondering if I might get some opinions on the best or most scenic way to come in into Switzerland by train. We can fly into any number of airports. We plan to do the lower loop of Switzerland for 10 days so I was also wondering if I might get some feedback on the Swiss pass versus the half pass versus the Oberland pass. We are looking to pack as much as possible into each day, but of course we understand things close earlier and there is the logistics of travel and assistance would be awesome. Thanks in advance Carol

I'm fond of the Centovalli route connecting Domodossola (Italy) to Locarno (Switzerland). It's not a high-Alpine route, but it commonly appears on lists of Europe's most scenic train journeys. To take this route you would want to fly into Milan. There's a rail connection from Milano Centrale to Domodossola (passing through Stresa). Domodossola is said to have an attractive historic center, but I have unfortunately never managed to break the trip there. The total travel time from Milan to Locarno along this route (which is not the fastest one) will be over 4 hours.

Can you be more specific about your plan? Which places do you plan to visit and for how many nights each? What specific activities do you plan to do? What time of year? Where do you plan to go after or before Switzerland?

These things affect the answers.

what do you mean by "the lower loop of Switzerland"? Are you trying to say the Engadin? Or Ticino?
