Swiss auto motorway vignette

Hello, we just return from Switzerland. We purchased the motorway vignette for 40 swiss francs which equates to a little over $50. Our Rent-A-Car had a little pouch in the lower right hand corner, where we put the vignette. So it hasn't been validated or stuck to the windshield. We purchased it even though we only had a couple hour drive from Zermat into France.

In any event, I have one available.

Thank you

In addition to direct fines for missing vignettes, there are further consequences. Attempts to forge or reuse vignettes are particularly serious and can result in criminal charges filed with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

I think you were lucky you did not get stopped as it would have cost you 200 CHF for not having it attached to the windshield. As it is, I am not sure if you actually have to get stopped or they just send you a notification of the fine. If that is the case, the notification will first go to the car rental company, then they ding your credit card for a service charge for providing the authorities your name and address.

Everything I’m reading says it must be affixed to the windshield or have been registered electronically even on rental cars. It’s nice you offered it but someone else trying to use it may become very unhappy if they receive some very heavy penalties for trying to use it. You’re really lucky they didn’t stop you at the border.
