Swiss Army knives--best price?

Hello. My 3 sons would LOVE to get Swiss Army knives while in the Berner Oberland in June. Could anyone save me some time and report on comparison shopping? Thanks!

If you want the absolute best price then look for them in the USA...seriously. But I know the thrill is finding them in Switzerland. In other words don't waste too much of your time comparison shopping in Switzerland where bargains are just not part of their vocabulary. I can definitely tell you they will be MOST expensive in places like the gift shops at the Jungfraujoch. So just look around the town where you'll be staying. We always stay in Murren so we always purchase the knives from Edy's ski equipment shop right in the center of town. They'll engrave your knives for free.

I don't think there is anything like a discount outlet mall for Swiss knives. Everywhere I saw them, they were about the same price. I also would expect to see them here in US for less. What you might find are some unique models and styles. That being said, there is a watch store in Lauterbrunnen that may give you a small discount on knives if you mention RS. Up the street from the cable car station.

You won't find much difference in prices no matter where you go but there are some very unique styles and materials that aren't commonly found outside of Switzerland. My son picked up a beautiful Swiss Army knife with a wood case that he treasures. Haven't seen one like it here in the US.

Just remember that you can't put them in your carry on luggage.

You won't have any trouble finding Swiss Army Knives just about anywhere in Switzerland. I doubt that you'll find much difference in price by comparison shopping, so if you're set on buying them in Switzerland just buy wherever you find them.

As the others have mentioned, you'll find an amazing selection of knives there, just about any model you can imagine including some which are almost the size of a small car with enough tools to build a house (OK, I'm exaggerating but you get the idea). Many gift shops have a display board in front with the different models.

I think you might not find much difference in price. we visited the factory, while in Switzerland, and bought them at their 'smallish' retail shop. we got our name engraved into the side as part of the purchase. which was good as one of them was a gift. its just a shame they don't have tours of the factory, but you could see some action through the windows.

10% off from the Backpacker's locations (Backpackers Lucerne, Backpackers Zurich, etc.). Not much off but otherwise the price is the same. Everywhere.
