Hello all. My husband and I are flying into Zurich in late September 2024 prior to a northern Italy tour. We will have 5 days to fill and are considering heading to Lucerne and using it as a hub for day trips. The other option is to divide the time among other towns on the way to Lake Como. Any suggestions on these ideas? Also, we are looking for moderately priced places to stay and recommendations on what to see. We are fairly active and enjoy walking and hiking. Thank you very much for your suggestions.
Hello,
With 5 nights, I would divide them up: 2 nights in Lucerne, and 3 nights in the Engadin (e.g. Pontresina) where there is some very good hiking. This lets you continue to lake Como via the scenic Bernina railway.
With 4 nights, I would stay in Lucerne. There is good hiking to be had in the relative vicinity, e.g. Rigi.
Or if you are not set on Lucerne, you could head straight to the Engadin.
Thank you for the advice. We are very interested in the Bernina railway and Engadin looks like a great choice.
