Hi, heading to Switzerland for a week or 2 in june. I am bungee jumping from Verzasca Dam at some point and am looking for swimming holes to enjoy. Anything from 100ft cliffs to random little beaches. I am open to suggestions for anywhere in switzerland. Please let me know.
Thanks,
-Kyle
This past summer I saw plenty of people swimming in Lake Geneva - there are quite a few little beaches in the various small towns that run along the north shore...Vevey, Montreux...not sure about swimming in Lausanne. For the braver - sounds like you might fit in this class - there are plenty of mountain tarns and lakes. If you go to Kandersteg, in the eastermost part of the Berner Oberland, there is a lake that is a short hike from the top of the gondola where lots of people go to swim in the summer. There are multiple waterfalls to plunge under, if you can get to them (fun scramble to get to some of them!), and there is a lot of beach along the shore. The views from the lake are breathtaking...it would make for a memorable swim! It's not Switzerland, but I saw a number of people swimming in Lac Bleu, just off the path that runs north from the first gondola stop on the way up to Mont Blanc out of Chamonix. It must be absolutely freezing but a few crazy people were jumping off rocks, stark naked, and having a blast! Lac Blanc, on the other side of the valley from Mont Blanc, is also a place I have seen people take a dip. Brrrrr.
Have a great time!
You know the water in natural swimming holes will be still quite cold in June. We went for a swim in the River Kleine Emme in the Emmental region (where the famous cheese is from) in July and it was rather chilly. But the place was just fantastic, right next to a covered wooden bridge! The host for our vacation rental recommended it to us as it was the place where he learned to swim many decades earlier.
