Summer Itinerary - Kid-free trip

My husband and I are in our 40's and are planning a trip to Switzerland next summer without our teenagers. We have r/t tickets to Paris and will be spending a couple of days there before a week (7 nights) in Switzerland.

4 nights in Wengen (or Murren?) and include a daytrip to Lake Brienz (lunch at Hotel Giessbach)
2 nights in Lucerne
Can we spend a 3rd night Lucerne or should we head back to Paris? We have an 8:30pm flight from CDG so we would have to get on the train in the morning.

Would it be too ambitious / stressful to travel from Paris straight to Wengen? When I use the sbb.ch website it looks like it will be 6 hours 20 minutes and require transfers in Basel, Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen (only 4-5 minutes in between).

Thank you!!

I can't speak to the overall logistics (I did look for alternatives because I am that person), I can assure you that the short train connections are no trouble. It is very efficient, but as long as you observe your stops (the app is great for this), you'll be fine.

Lucerne is a fantastic alternative to Zurich if you do not have a super early departure, perhaps that could replace Brienz if it helps consolidate stays.

We took the TGV Lyria high-speed train from Paris Gare de Lyon to Zürich (4 hours), changed to a direct train to Interlaken Ost and then made our way to Mürren. it wasn’t stressful at all.

Paris to Wengen no problem-we’ll do it next summer also-transfers are easy.
Do Giessbach Hotel/falls
as a day trip by boat and lunch at Hotel. Stay in beautiful Wengen
and day trip from there esp Kanderstag. Been to the area eight times-if you have any questions private message me… we’ll be in Wengen June 22-29.

Thank you!! @valadelphia do you think we'd be ok getting from Lucerne back to Paris in time for an 8:30pm flight? It's international so we'd need to be at CDG at 5:30pm. It's a Monday

Thanks @Michael!!! We will be there just after you - I will be on the lookout for your trip report!! Do you have a favorite place to stay in Wengen?

Thanks for the rec on doing Lake Brienz/Hotel Giessbach as a daytrip!

Would you recommend we do 4 nights in Wengen and 2 nights in Lucerne? Or 5 nights Wengen and 1 night in Lucerne?

We loved Mürren for its high elevation & car-free village. It is visually stunning! We stayed at the Eiger Guesthouse that is right by the Mürren train station and looks directly across at the Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau. We had a room with a balcony facing those 3 mountains. The Guesthouse was renovated within the last 2-3 years. There is an elevator! The innkeeper is a phenomenal woman who is focused on making her guests’ visits wonderful. Plus you have free access to the pool & whirlpool of the Sports Center up the hill. I loved that!

Could not say--I would trust Swiss trains though so should be fine(?). I wish you did not have to travel so far, but Murren is certainly worth it, it's an absolutely magical place.
I stayed in Murren, but agree Murren or Wengen will be fabulous. We rented a chalet (it was a bit of a splurge, but see VRBO and the like for options--there are more modest apartments on offer with views also). I dined at Alpenruh and Edelweiss and both seemed nice.

We have only stayed in Lauterbrunnen and Murren. The view from Murren is magnificent, but since many of the things we wanted to do were on the Wengen side, I did start find the extra travel time up/down from Lauterbrunnen a con in the location.

I would want to be closer than Zurich the night before your flight.

Even with the flight being at night (830pm)? It looks like there are several direct morning trains from Zurich to Paris?
I checked Lucerne too and see they have a couple of AM trains with just a stop in Basel that would get to Paris by 3:30pm

For peace of mind, I would choose somewhere closer to Paris like Strasbourg. But the times from Zurich look like they would be fine for you.

The Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of my favorite places. Have a wonderful trip!
