We have a full day in Zurich in December after a river cruise. Most day tours from Zurich seem to be about 9-11 hrs long. We are looking for a tour that is maybe 6-8 hrs especially since it will be dark early in the morning and early afternoon. Any suggestions for a small tour group or private or semi-private tour are appreciated.
If the Xmas markets are open for your dates, just jump on a train for the markets in either Bern or Lucerne (smaller).
We actually went up to Mt Rigi in December, (outside Lucerne) and it was spectacular , blue skies and fresh powder snow- just beautiful to experience, not ski.
You really don't need a tour, as the train stations are in the center of the towns, and the train rides about an hour.
Zurich has the largest indoor Xmas market in Europe, and it's actually inside the main train station .
Enjoy!
I can't help with out of town tours but the train station in Zurich is massive and it hosts events year round. It may be a good Christmas market. Also, the tourist info office within the train station offers 2-hour town tour that is quite good. We stayed in Zurich in May last year after a river cruise and enjoyed our 2-night stay in Zurich. We combined the town tour in the morning with a trip to the Lindt Chocolate Factory in the afternoon.
