Suggestions for what to do for afternoon arrival in Wengen & restaurants

There are two lovely little walks I would recommend: the Mönchblick and the Staubbachbänkli. Stop by the TI, located near the Männlichen lift and ask for the map with local walks. These are two of the less ambitious with gorgeous views.

Try to get a reservation at Maya Caprice. Almost impossible to get in without a reservation. Great Italian including pizza.

most places don't start check in much after 3pm (1500). How much time do you need to kill?

First I would check and make sure Alpine Holiday has someone in their office before checkin time. They didn’t when we used them two years ago and our family of six sat on the steps to wait then spent a hour walking around the small town because our apartment wasn’t ready. The previous poster has great suggestions for scenic walks and dinner.

Nigel, if my notes are still right, this management company (not a hotel) has a 4 pm check in.

There are also storage lockers at the Wengen train station if you are unable to drop your bags at the hotel. Here is the info SBB provides:

I really like the Leiterhorn route, it requires a bit more effort than the ones already mentioned, so you can gage it according to how your family feels at the time.

We did both walks suggested by Laurel, and especially enjoyed the Staubbachbänkli walk. Our hotel had copies of the brochure that includes both walks she suggested.

My go to place for Pizza in Wengen is not the Caprice, but Da Sina. That place also has lots of other standard dishes, like burgers, pasta. and even Swiss Classics.
