Suggestions for two open days during our September trip.

We have a 14 night trip planned this coming September where we have two open nights yet to decide on a destination. The trip is as follows -
Fly into Zurich - travel same day to Lucern
2 nights in Lucerne
3 nights in Murren (2nd time there)
2 OPEN nights looking for suggestions
3 nights Lake Como (Menaggio)
2 nights Vernazza
1 night Portofino
1 night Nice - fly out

The 2 open nights we would prefer not to have full day train trips to either get to the destination or when we move on to our next stop at Lake Como. Thoughts so far include - extending our stay in the Oberland area (Brienz?), Zermatt?, 1 night in Leukerbad and 1 night in Locarno?

We greatly appreciate any suggestions that would fit into our current committed itinerary.
Thanks!

I have been to all of your destinations. I’d add the nights in the Berner Oberland. Brienz would be good if you are interested in the Ballenberg open air museum, the Brienzer Rothorn, and/ or Geissbach falls. And there is a lot to do in and near Nice, as another option.

How about heading to Luzern and taking the Gotthard Panorama Express boat plus train over the Gotthard Pass to Lugano? Or the Treno Gottardo train over the pass to Locarno? Spend 2 nights in either lakeside town, then take the C12 bus directly to Menaggio from Lugano.

I LOVE Brienz, having stayed there twice, and visited 4 or 5 x.
Ballenberg Outdoor Museum, a quick bus ride from the train station.
Lake Brienz to Giessbach Falls boat ride (as already suggested).
A lakeside beach area may still be open, weather permitting.
There is a little animal park above town (Tierpark).
And the Rothornbahn, as mentioned previously.
The old wooden chalets on Brunngasse shouldn't be missed either!

Thank you Barbara, Lola and Wynoka for the quick responses and suggestions. We’ll definitely look into additional nights in the Oberland area as well as the Gotthard Panorama Express to Locarno….something I hadn’t given thought to.
If others have additional ideas, we’d certainly like to hear about them!
Thanks again!
