I'll soon travel to St. Gallen, Switzerland for several weeks and thanks to a home exchange will be able to see much of the north and east part of the country. Eventually, I'll return to the U.S. via Zurich and will spend a couple of days there prior to departure to take in some of that area. In the meantime, I'd also like to spend 4-7 days touring the south and southwest.
I have the 15 day Flex Pass, which allows for lots of range daily travel but think I will need to be near a train hub so I can cover a wide area. I really don't mind long train rides and would prefer to be based in one or maybe 2 towns for several days instead of moving from town to town.
Please offer suggestions on which cities might be good places to base myself. A ride through the alps is a must, but other than that, I'm pretty flexible. Thanks!
