We are staying with friends near Basel. Lookimg for quick trips, overnight to the countries of Germany and France, as well as Switzerland? We are looking more for scenic out doors. We will have a car. May travel with train as well.

I lived in Staufen im Breisgau a long time ago. Beautiful small German village with an old castle, lots of vineyards, medieval history, and many pleasant hikes into the Schwarzwald. It's less than an hour by train from Basel, depending on where you start. Still carries fond memories after more than three decades.

We enjoyed the Alsace villages. Will you have a car? Easier with nut even without a car we did some village to village hikes through vineyards facilitated by taxi and/or bus.

You want to go to Colmar and Strasbourg. You can do this by direct train from Basel.
