Struggling with the last part of our 14 day trip

Hi travelers,
We are traveling to Switzerland for 14 days to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We are arriving into Zurich September 3.

Our itinerary so far: 2 nights Luzern (Hotel Des Alpes) > 3 nights Murren (Hotel Alpina) > 5 nights Wengen (Hotel Alpenrose) > **GoldenPass Express from Interlaken to Montreux > 1 night Montreux > 2 nights Zermatt > 1 night Bern. Fly out of Zurich on Sept 17 at 11:20am.

I'm struggling with the last week of our trip as I'm just not sure if it makes sense with the short amount of time in each place. I really want to take the scenic GoldenPass train and that's primarily why we are going to Montreux. And then I thought, well if we're that close to Zermatt, we should go there? Then to Bern because it made the most sense to make our way north and see another city and an easy train to Zurich the next morning. Do we skip Zermatt and add more nights in the Lake Geneva area? Or keep it the way it is. We have been on three RS Tours so we get the 2 night here and there itineraries, but just wanted this one to be more relaxing.

Would love your thoughts, thank you so much!

Mary, I think you plan looks good. Not sure about 2 days at Zermatt, though. If you added those 2 days to Lucerne, you could visit Mt Rigi, Mt. Pilatus, and/or Mt. Stanserhorne. Those are all wonderful day trips from Lucerne. We really enjoy taking a boat from Lucerne to Vitznau, then the cog railway to Mt. Rigi. Each morning in Lucerne, you could check the webcams for each peak and then decide.

From Lucerne, you could take a long train excursion around to Meirengen, then Brienz (nice meal at the Steinbock), Interlaken, and back to Lucerne. Take a boat on Lake Brienz, from Brienz to Interlaken.

As for the Goldenpass, that is also wonderful IMHO. And Montreaux has Chillon Castle very close by. Of course, everyone needs a photo with the giant Freddie Mercury statue.
