Hi don’t know which train ride is more scenic. Traveling from Paris station to Basel then to Geneva or Paris to Strasbourg to Geneva. I remember taking the train from Strasbourg to Geneva a long time ago and it was really beautiful. It was a very long train and took about 4 hours. Going up the mountains you can see how lovely it was! Will be going in October! Is it less expensive on weekday or weekend on train?
Thank you sooo much
Joanna
Do you want to stop in Basel for a time? There are direct trains from Paris to Geneva going via Bourg-en-Bresse and Bellegarde, the last hour and a half are scenic.
I did not find anything particularly scenic between Paris and Basel.
You will just have to wait until SNCF comes out with prices this summer to see if there are any particular days that are cheaper than others.
This is a duplicate question of another right here in the Switzerland Forum.
Paris station to Basel then to Geneva or Paris to Strasbourg to Geneva
I had to read this twice. If you want to go from Paris to Geneva, then just go from Paris to Geneva. Takes under 3½ hours, timetable is here: https://www.tgv-lyria.com/sites/default/files/pdf/BROCHURES_CO/lyria-timetable-10.12.17_06.07.18.pdf
Paris --> Basel --> Geneva would be a long detour (total 6 hours), Paris --> Strasbourg --> Geneva is an even longer detour (6½ hours, and you have to go via Basel as well). Geneva is on the Swiss French border, coming from Paris you don't see the Alps, there are plenty of mountains to see in Switzerland, but they are all after Geneva.
What is your final destination in Switzerland? Is it Geneva or somewhere else? If so, you should be asking what is the quickest route from Paris to there (it may be via Geneva or via Basel). You can get the answer by looking up on a rail site, like the SBB one: https://www.sbb.ch/en
