stopover geneva-milan

We are flying into Geneva early in the morning in July and need to be in the Cinque Terre, traveling by train, in Italy 2 days later (transfer trains in Milan). So, we have 2 nights to stop somewhere. I would like to stay in Switzerland. We will have jet lag, but would like to hike or do something active. We are 2 adults and 2 teens. We are staying on Lake Geneva on our return, so would like to try something else. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Any number of places. Villars, Les Diablerets, Haute Nendaz, Crans-Montana, even Zermatt.

You might want to stay in Bettmeralp or any other town in the Goms (the region from Brig to Oberwald). Its not very far from Brig by train (odds are, you'll be catching your train to Milan in Brig anyway) but you'll feel like you're in the middle of the alps. There's an amazing hike from below the Bettmerhorn along the Aletsch glacier and then back down to Bettmeralp. There are also some gorgeous towns in the region, ie Belwald that are easy to get to. IMHO, staying up there beats being down in Brig, Sion or further down the valley.
