Leaving Interlaken, Switzerland for Frankfurt, Germany to spend the night to catch a train ( the next day )but felt it could be a great opportunity for one more stop along the way for a few hours. Does anyone have a great suggestion for a quick visit? It could be in Germany or Switzerland. We have seen Luzern. Thanks!

Freiburg im Breisgau is adjacent to the Black Forest and very attractive. First stop for the train in Germany.
If you are talking about one of the 2 daily direct ICE trains to Frankfurt, the train does not stop in Colmar or even pass through Colmar. If you want to stop in Freiburg, make sure you purchase the ticket that way as you do not get hop-off hop-on privileges on ICE trains. There is an ICE train from Freiburg to Frankfurt at least once per hour up until 18:55. So you must specify how long a stopover in Freiburg you want.
