Hi all,
We are using Lucerne as home base in april for quick 3-4 night trip. We fly out of zurich at 10 a.m. We are not savy on trains from here in the US yet. Would staying in lucerne be an easy early morning train ride to get to zurich leaving plenty of time at airport just in case be safe or should we stay in zurich the night before?

Check schedules at https://www.sbb.ch/en to see what time you would have to get up. It is usually encouraged to stay in Lucerne if departing Zurich at 11am-noonish or later, but some people are early risers and could possibly make it for a 10 departure if the schedule allows.
That would be an easy early morning train ride for me.
I live in Chicago and it takes me about the same time more or less on public transportation to get to the airports here to catch an early morning flight that it takes to go from Luzern to Zurich Airport.
You can take the 6:09 train, arriving at the airport at 7:12. Or the 6:35 train, arriving at 7:42.
