Staying in Lausanne or Montreux

Hi,
I know Rick recommends staying in Lausanne instead of Montreux . What do you think?
Will stay four nights in Montreux and take day trips to Vevey and Lausanne. Have been to Gruyeres. Is that a good idea?
We go to France next after 4 nights in Switzerland.
Thank you, merci beaucoup!

Both have their merits. Lausanne is a city, Montreux is merely a town... And actually I prefer Vevey in the middle!

I really like Montreux and am staying there a second time this June. But I have not been to Lausanne yet so I cannot compare the two. I have Lausanne on my list this time to check it out.

No wrong choice. :)

We stayed in Montreux and spent a day in Lausanne on our way to Geneva. Glad we stayed in Montreux.

Have stayed in Vevey once and Montreux four times. Prefer Montreux. Three times did a day trip to Lausanne. I was happy I was staying in Montreux.

I didn’t love Lausanne. It’s a city on a steep incline with a subway to get places. Not my idea of what I go to Switzerland for. If you’re into cities, sure. We stayed in a small historic village on Lake Geneva with good train access to Montreux, Lausanne, etc + right at the boat stop to explore the region from the water as well. It’s called St-Prex and we thought it was far superior to the crowded cities.
