Staying in BO Region

We are a family of 5 hiking adults. Trying to figure out where to stay in the BO region for 3 nts. We will have both the BO Pass and the Half Off Card. At this time, we have no plans to do Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch. Would prefer to stay somewhat in the mountains, not in Interlaken.

My preference is to always stay in the high rent district, Wengen or Muerren, but Lauterbrunnen will have lower prices and perhaps a better choice of lodging types.

I stayed in Wengen last year and loved it. The previous year I stayed in Lauterbrunnen and really liked it. Next year I’ll stay in Murren or Wengen.

Carrie, be open- minded and try Murren next year!😉

Wmkimble, what time of year are you visiting? Hopefully not this summer, as lodging is already scarce and expensive. Safe travels!

For serious hikers I recommend Mürren. There are several great hikes (4-6 hours);right from the village, or from Gimmelwald just down the hill.

Here are some suggestions from Gimmelwald from their websites:

One of our favorites is the Northface Trail, which is not on those lists because it starts at Mürren. This is a good description:

We hiked up to Allmendhubel, instead of riding the funicular.

For a longer hike, we like the trail to Rotstockhütte—it is on the Gimmelwald be site but you can start from Mürren if you like.

One we haven’t done yet is the hike to Oberhornsee ( also on the Gimmelwald list). We may do that one this year.

With 5 of you for 3 nights you may like an apartment, but it could be late for booking. When are you going? I have one to recommend but there is very limited availability.

Pat, you weren’t supposed to see the murren or wengen for next year. 😊 I'm 93% sure i'll try murren.

wmkimble, you might be limited to what you can find available. I’ll be booking my hotels for next June in the next couple of months. Good luck!!!

Start with booking.com and see what is available. For 5 people to sleep in real bed (not sofa beds), you’ll need 3 hotel rooms or a 3 bedroom apartment. Beware that any room with a bed (including sofa bed) is considered a “bedroom”. Look at the listing closely. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find a triple room and a double room. Good luck. The mountain towns have limited lodging. Book soon.
