Stay in Zermatt

Hi All,
We are planning to visit Zermatt part of our 7 days plan in Switzerland.
We will be in Lucerne 2 days, then 4-5 days in Lauterbrunnen , after this we will be reaching Zermatt.
Little bit confused after seing the rent in Zermatt , quite expensive compared to two other cities in Swiss, is this normal , any suggestion on this. We are 4 member family with kids if 5 and 7.

Also , in our plan we have Paris 5 days and 4 days in Amsterdam.
What is the best time to travel in train from Swiss to Paris, do we get train from Zermatt to Paris ?

Thanks
Mahroof NM

Yes, Zermatt is expensive, but so is the rest of Switzerland.

Whenever you want. There are plenty of trains. There are two routes, either via Basel or via Lausanne/Geneva. Both routes have High Speed trains and have about one train every two hours, and it takes just over 3 hours from Basel or Geneva to Paris Gare de Lyon. Depending where you are starting from in Switzerland, you get a train or trains from there to connect with one of the routes to Paris.
You can look up train times on the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) website: https://www.sbb.ch/en
For example, if you wanted to leave Zermatt in the morning:

Zermatt dep 09:13, R 328, Visp arr 10:22
Visp dep 10:35, IR 90 1816 InterRegio 90, Lausanne arr 12:10
Lausanne dep 12:23, TGV 9268, Paris-Gare de Lyon arr 16:03

You can use the same site to find trains for your other trips in Switzerland (Zürich airport to Luzern to Lauterbrunnen to Zermatt).

How are you arriving in Switzerland? I guess flying from wherever your home is to Zürich, then train to Luzern.

Did you try the local accommodation website?

https://www.zermatt.ch/en

You may face minimum stay requirements, like 3 night minimum, or even a week minimum for apartments. Hotels are indeed expensive, but try the two=star category.

I see from other posts that this will be late March to early April. It is still ski season in Zermatt, so prices will still be higher than shoulder season. Of course, during shoulder season, a lot of hotels will close down until summer, so the inventory shrinks.

Switzerland is expensive...Zermatt especially so in my experience. You just have to budget for it and expect to spend a small fortune to stay there. We have stayed there before and it was not cheap. Last time we were there a couple of summers ago it was just for the day - we spent about $600 for the train, gondolas, meals, etc. and didn't even sleep there. Switzerland is not the place for you if you have issues with sticker-shock.
