Stay in Murren/Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald

Hi, my wife and I are going to Swiss from May 25 to June 1.

Our itinerary includes a mix of adventure activities and sightseeing. We’re considering Mürren paragliding, the Grindelwald canyon swing, and tackling the Mürren via ferrata. Initially, my plan was to base ourselves in Interlaken for 3-4 days before moving on to Lucerne. However, after perusing various forums, I’ve come to understand that staying directly in the Alps may offer a more immersive experience than Interlaken. Consequently, we’re deliberating over accommodations in either Mürren, Lauterbrunnen, or the Grindelwald area. I’m concerned about the potential for excessive daily travel. Could you provide some guidance on this matter?

Interlaken is a commercial transit center. If you're going that for from home, be IN the Alps. However, at this late date, you may not have the option of changing lodging. I'd recommend Murren or Wengen. Enjoy this beautiful area!

Stay where you can find lodging. You cannot avoid travel to some extent with the things you want to focus on. Mürren would be most convenient, of course, but Grindelwald or the others will work as well.

Note: The country you are going to is Switzerland. The people are the Swiss. Sorry, but a pet peeve of mine.

We've stayed in Murren, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen (on different visits). Honestly my favorite place to stay is Lauterbrunnen as it's centrally located. We love the Staubbach Hotel.

When we went to Switzerland we stayed in Lauterbrunnen. That way we could access both sides of the valley. But I agree that with your trip coming up so soon you might not find a lot of availability.

Another vote for Lauterbrunnen. Avoid Grindelwald unless you are interested in meeting big tour groups and seeing tour buses.

No matter where you choose, you need to book NOW.

I appreciate all the feedback. Would booking our stay in Luzern for an additional three days be advisable, or might there be other destinations you'd suggest? Return flight is from Zurich. Additionally, I'd be grateful for any adventure recommendations you might have.

I like Lucerne. You MUST do the boat trips and visit nearby mountain tops. Pilatus and Rigi are spectacular!

You may still find lodging in Thun, on Lake Thun, or the suburb of Interlaken called Unterseen.
