stay in Montreux or Vevey?

Stay at Eden palace Au Lac in Montreux or Hotel de la Vielle in Vevey? Which one is closer to public transpiration?

maybe staying in Lausanne would be better since we want to see some of Geneva too - more central. ??

The second one is in a village next to Vevey called La Tour de Peilz, so I wouldn't recommend. The hotel itself is not far from the train, probably less than a five minute walk, but because it's a small village, it's not manned and trains do not run as often. The bus does run directly in front of the hotel, so that's an option, but I would opt to stay in Vevey or Montreux for convenience.

You mentioned staying in Lausanne. That is an option, but it's really more a personal preference than convenience. It is a city with a main terminal. If you have many connections to make, you may find this more convenient. Almost anywhere you stay, you will be able to connect with transportation easily as you are never that far from a bus or a train.

If you opt for Vevey, I've put a links below for two b&b's which are at the marche in Vevey and a few minutes walk to the train, bus and boats. I have not used them before, but I have dined at their restaurants, which are popular. The fresh food market is also here on Tuesday and Saturday morning - well worth going to. The tourist office is located here, and directly at your door is the boat dock for the lake tour, which I recommend taking. If you can, take the boat and stop at Yvoire. Yvonne is a very charming village and worth a few hours. With the half price card, you will receive half price from the boat, bus and train. This region is part of the Mobilis transport network, so when you purchase a ticket for the train or bus along the same route, they are interchangeable during the time allowed on your ticket.

I live a few doors away from Eden Palace along the lake. I do not know this hotel other than to walk past, but there's a bus stop just nearby. The train is about a ten minute walk away, but if you have anything other than a backpack, I'd take the bus to the train. Eden Palace would be less convenient than Vevey, except to visit Chateau Chillon, which would be a short walk away along the lake.

If you are a bit fit, I recommend visiting the Lavaux Vineyards, walking through the charming villages along the way.

My pleasure, no problem. I wanted to let you know that I just took the walk from the Eden Palace in Montreux to the train. It took 7 minutes, door to door. I was at first concerned if you had luggage, the roads would be a challenge. But, if you take the paved walking path Quai des Fleurs behind the hotel which runs alongside the lake, it's perfectly smooth. At the main road, there's a lift which takes you directly to the train. The views of the lake behind the hotel are quite spectacular and the terrace restaurant they have is always popular.

As far as what is central, so much of this depends on what you want to see and what you enjoy when you travel. From Montreux, you can take the train directly to Roche de Naye, which is quite spectacular. The chocolate train departs from Montreux, which is worthwhile. There is so much more than this to the area and I have included a link to the tourism website for the area below. So, Montreux can be quite central. If you were to ask my husband, he would tell you to go to Roche de Naye and avoid Lausanne and Geneva, but he is not a city person. If you look at the Canton of Vaud tourism website, you can see what might interest you and see what works best for you as far as location. For me, Vevey is quite central if you wanted to see the offerings I just mentioned as well as visit Lausanne and Geneva. Both Vevey and Montreux offer direct trains to Lausanne and Geneva.
