We will be arriving on the glacier express from zermatt to st Mortiz in early May. Just staying for one night and headed back up to appenzell for two nights. Anyone have suggestions to stay in st Mortiz? Thank you

Seriously though, do a search at booking.com for your dates and look for something near the train station. St Moritz is not too popular with the Rickniks. Most people suggest Pontresina nearby. Get off the Glacier Express at Samedan and take the short connector train to Pontresina.

I don't know what your budget is, but I stay at the Laudinella (https://www.laudinella.ch/en/) a couple of times each year and always find it very satisfactory. They run a free bus shuttle from the train station, you just need to tell them when you need a ride.

You could also look at hotels in Samedan, which is one or two Glacier Express stops before St Moritz. It is a prettier place and much cheaper.

Pontresina and Samedan are much, much more charming than St. Moritz. Oddly, St. Moritz has very few trees and—possibly from the avalanche risk—appears like its buildings were designed to look like bomb shelters.
