Hi all;
I am traveling in a few days; starting in Zurich, to Interlaken, to Grindelwald, to Zermatt and ending in Geneva; I am still undecided between the Swiss pass and the half-fare pass because I won't benefit from all the Swiss Pass extras.
I am considering the Zurich to Interlaken express, and the Golden Pass- but not sure if there is anything scenic from Zermatt to Geneva.
My questions: 1- Does anyone recommend a way from Zermatt to Geneva? 2- The SP offers no discounts on Jungfrau, but yes on Golden Pass- is there any other perk I am missing considering my destinations?
Thank you in advance
Zermatt to Geneva is quite scenic by the standard logical route. Zermatt to Visp (scenic as you descend from the high Alps), then the upper Rhone Valley to Lac Leman with mountains on both sides. Then along the north shore of Lac Leman to Geneva.
The STP does give a 25% reduction on the Jungfraujoch railway.
A more scenic route from Zurich to Interlaken is to go via Luzern. The hourly Luzern-Interlaken Express is quite scenic as you climb over the Bruenig Pass. It is maybe an extra hour of travel time over going via Bern, but slightly cheaper if you are using the Half Fare Card as the actual distance traveled is shorter.
A long scenic route from Zermatt to Geneva would be to take the train from Zermatt to Brig, then the RE train to Spiez, which is more over the mountains with the old Loetschberg Tunnel, then the Golden Pass train from Spiez to Montreux followed by a train to Geneva. This way would take the better part of a day, where as the standard route is just a few hours.
Thank you so much! I appreciate this!
