snowboarding day trip from Interlaken to Zermatt

We will be in Interlaken for 3 nights and would like to know if it is feasible to do a day trip to Zermatt for snowboarding / skiing in June? I know it sounds crazy but could we take a 6am train and get at least a half day in? It would be a bucket list item for sure and we will be so close yet far at the same time.

We won't have equipment and would need to rent. We have Ikon passes so at least the lift tickets are paid for!

Any input appreciated!

This statement about summer skiing and snowboarding from the Zermatt website.

The summer is here and the sun is high in the sky – but up on the Theodul Glacier above Zermatt the conditions are wintry and still suitable for skiing, snowboarding and freestyling up to midday. So: rise and shine!

Note key phrase "up to midday". By the time you get there, rent equipment and get up to the glacier, it is likely to be closed because it just gets too slushy to keep the pistes open. So if it is really a bucket list, I would go the night before and get up there first thing. And check if the Ikon pass is valid for summer skiing/boarding.

You could stay in Taesch the night before if you are looking for bargain lodging.

PS. I guess if you left Interlaken Ost at 5:59, you could get to Zermatt by 8:17. That would give you enough time to rent equipment and snow board until midday.

Hi Sam, Thank you very much for providing that information. It is good to know that the time to go is early morning and that would change the strategy. It is a lot of effort for a few hours! Maybe we need to plan to come back in Winter!

I'm now trying to re work the plan and I've made another post. Maybe we go Zurich to Zermatt to Interlaken...
