Snowboard planning and rental tips - February

Hello everybody and thank you for taking the time to read my post. I will be snowboarding at Zermatt on Tuesday February 12th, and at Wengen/Grindelwald on either February 14th or 15th. I would love to bring my own equipment but will need to rent a board/boots/helmet at both. I am an intermediate/advanced level rider. I will be staying in Täsch when I go to Zermatt, and in Wilderswil when I goto Wengen/Grindelwald.
For Zermatt I would just like some general tips for a first time visitor and for renting.
For Wengen/Grindelwald I would like to know the same and if it makes more sense to rent equipment in town or at the resort. Also does it makes more sense to take a train to Wengen station, or Grindelwald Grund station from Winderswil the morning I choose.
Thank you so much!

I have't been to Zermatt but the Intersport chain is a major player in the snowsports retail/rental business. Do a Google Maps search for "Intersport Zermatt". Intersport takes on-line rental reservations. Some shops will hold gear overnight(s) for multi-day rentals. You can also rent avalanch beacons.

We are XC skiers and bring our own gear. That said, the common advice for skiers is to bring your own boots. Not being a snowboarder, I don't know how critical boot fit is to performance. For skis, rentals typically offer a range of equipment fron "premium" a cheaper.

Thank you for the response!! I will look into intersport as a source for rental equipment. From what I hear it is about the same for snowboarders...The boots are most important to have custom fit and the rest can be interchanged with few issues. It is an option for me to bring the boots but I cannot check luggage on my flight so they would take up half my carry on room.
