should I get both the Swiss half fare card AND the Berner overland regional pass?

Hi there,

We are a family of five (3 adults, one 16 year old and one 11 year old). We already bought the Swiss half fare card for the adults and the 16 year old, and the Swiss family card to use for the 11 year old. We will be staying in Murren for four full days. Should we also buy the Berner Overland Regional Pass? If so, do I buy four Berner overland passes, assuming our youngest does not need the pass?

We want to see as much of the area as we can.

Thank you in advance!

If you are there 4 full days (5 nights), it MAY be worth it. It depends on what you do on your arrival and departure days. We just did this last week, staying in Wengen. The HFC + BO pass is about 20 CHF more that JUST the BO pass.

You would use the Half Fare card to get to/from Murren on your arrival/departure days. Then you would start using your BO pass the day AFTER you arrive.

So if the savings from the HFC on your arrival and departure days is more than 20 CHF, it’s worth it. For example, if you arrive early enough to go up to Allmendhubel, or down to Gimmelwald. Price those out on the SBB app and see what the savings is.

What do you hope/plan to do while you’re there? That’s the only way to answer whether the pass would be useful to you. Children 6-15.99 get a pass for 30chf - so yes, they do need a pass to show it’s just steeply discounted.
